There are lots and lots of exercises to do as a beginner. Most of these exercises range from warm-ups to rudiments and lots more. We are going to mention a few to get you going. Make sure you constantly practice so that the exercises produce better results. Constant exercise is what leads to results.
Warming Up Exercises
The first exercise we are going to talk about is the warm-up exercise. Warm-ups are used to ease the tension in the body of the drummer. Since playing the drums is a physical activity, you need to set your muscles and limbs in tone and working conditions to play drums. All you need is about 15 minutes of warm-ups before you play.
Beginner Drum Exercises usually differ in difficulty, and that is why you should go for exercises that would suit your skill level. Exercises are geared toward helping you build coordination and confidence on the drum set. This is why drummers need to ensure that they stick to exercises and warm-ups that suit their level. One piece of advice is to use a metronome all the time. This helps you learn to keep time in addition to warming up.

Holding the drumstick:
There is no special hibie jibie to holding the drumstick. However, it is quite alarming to notice that a lot of drummers these days hold the drumsticks wrongly. What you need is to balance the drumstick on the joint of your index finger, and place your thumb on the top of the stick. Wrap your remaining fingers around the stick, and face your palm downwards. Once you get that, you are good to go.
Playing from the wrist:
This is the best way to play. It conserves energy, helps you stay relaxed, and allows you to harness the rebound of the stick. Try avoiding playing from your shoulders or arms. You would have poor control and get tired quickly.
The medium-full stroke roll:
This is a single stroke roll (R L R L) at medium volume. It is achieved by holding the stick at 45 degrees over the drum. Make sure you play consistently while using this technique. It helps you master power and control.
Rebounding double strokes:
Double strokes are formed when you play two strokes with one hand. The only way to get faster double strokes is by leveraging the rebound – just as basketball players leverage the rebound of the ball to make it bounce faster.
Singles to doubles exercises:
The last technique to learn is the transition from singles to doubles. This might seem quite hard as a Beginner Drum Exercises, but it is a very simple way to develop complex moves on the drums.

Beginner Drum Exercises – The Beats
The first drum beat we would talk about is the 2-4 drum beat. In this beat, the snare drum falls on the two and four of the time signature. The bass drum falls on the one and three, and this leads to the production of a simple rock or funk beat. There are many examples of this beat, and one example which you might be familiar with is “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson.
The next beat to play is the Two on the Floor. This beat is like the 2-4 but only has its bass drum on all four beats on the bar. The hi-hat also lines up with the bass drum to thicken the groove. Make sure the snare and hi-hat are played at the same time. Flaming makes the groove a bit unclean unless the music requires it.
The last one we are going to talk about is the “One Drop” beat. This beat works like the rest but has its snare drum on the three only. The hi-hat and bass drum are to follow any pattern of your choice. Anyhow you choose to play it, it works! Just try to keep to time and play as clean as you can.
