The subcontrabass saxophone is the largest playable saxophone in the world. It has a very deep sound and it is very rarely played so you will probably never come across it as a musician.
The subcontrabass sax was invented by Adolphe Sax in 1846, who named it the ‘sax bourdon’ after the lowest stop on an organ. He did not actually build one however and it was not until around 2012 that a full-size subcontrabass sax was finally built by a well known German manufacturer Eppelsheim.
There are no known sub-contrabass sax’s for sale.
