Let’s take a closer look and see how to play saxophone notes
LEARN TO BLOW THE SAXOPHONE WITHOUT USING ANY KEYS:
The intent of this is to teach you consistency, and how to create a clear sound as you blow into the mouthpiece of the sax. From playing the mouthpiece only, you can detect flat notes as you make them, and then work on improving them.
Try to make adjustments to how you position yourself so that you can make a clear and consistent sound. Once you get a clear sound, then you have a perfect embouchure.
LEARN TO PLAY THE B NOTE:
Try to locate the second button from the top of the sax, then place your left index on it and press it gently. The sound you hear when you blow the sax is a B note.
LEARN TO PLAY THE A NOTE:
First, place your left index finger on the B note – as explained above. Then place your middle finger at the button below the B note button. This button is the third button from the top and combining it with a B note button creates the A note. When you blow the sax while pressing those two buttons, you would hear the A note.
LEARN TO PLAY THE G NOTE:
Place your left ring finger on the fourth button after getting yourself in the position to play the A note. Blow the sax when you place your fingers in the required buttons. The sound produced is the G note.
LEARN TO PLAY THE F, E AND D NOTES:
Creating these three notes involves using the bottom three keys. Ensure that your three left fingers are still in the position to create the G note.
Once you are in position, place your right index finger at the first bottom key to make an F note. Try to maintain a good embouchure to produce a perfect sound. Now try to make the E sound by adding your right middle finger to the second key at the bottom as you maintain the pose for an F note.
Pressing the five keys and blowing with a good embouchure would produce an outstanding E note. Once you have gotten how to make the E note, place your right ring finger to the last key to make a D note.
